Poetry Recital

"Everything seems to be about the bare nature of survival these nights. While it is important to see to pressing concerns, what good is it if our lives are stripped bare and hardscrabble?"

"I think we should hold a poetry recital. Something courtly, to brighten up the long night a little. Who else would be interested in sitting as a judge?"

"As a judge? Is this a competition then? I would certainly not mind reciting or listening to poetry, but if it is a competition then what is the prize we offer so we may entice others?"

"That is something the judges would have to agree on, isn't it?"

"Indeed. Well if you would agree to have me as another judge, I would be honored to listen to what the cainites of York have to offer. And I am certain a sufficiently enticing prize can be arranged."

"Why Giric. I was hoping you'd say that."

::Giric smiles broadly::

"When would you want such an event to take place?"

If I may.... I would like to make an attempted at the imagery of verse competition . I have for a while been practicing my way with words and this will be a good test.

"Of course, I believe all are welcome. It would be a pleasure to hear what you have worked on."

I like to craft words while my hammer strikes the hot steel.

"I would say we should hold it at the next assemblage. After the Conclave. Otherwise, we'll be all over York."

I would be pleased to host.

:Giric looks slightly puzzled at MacLeod, but then shrugs:

"Whenever your mind is at rest and you can find the words. What will matter is the end product, and I look forward to it."

"That sounds ideal. It will be lovely to see the southern shires, I haven't visited there in ages."

How will the poems be judged? Are we requiring those who compete to subscribe to a particular form, or allowing any poetic form they choose?

The poets of Italy have recently become much enamored of a newly developed fourteen line poetic form, but I am afraid I am something of a traditionalist, and do not see its appeal.

At any rate, the terms of the competition should be made clear as soon as possible, or else the aspiring wordsmiths will not have time to perfect their creations before the recital.

"You mean the Sonneto? It's elegant, I'll give it that, but it lacks depth and I find it a bit sing-song in tone. It's fine for putting to music. Maybe it's just waiting for a real genius to really show what you can do with the form."

"Still, I want to see the creativity of the participants brought to full flower, so on the right hand, let us evaluate for form and stylistic beauty, and on the left, let us contemplate the resonance, that which stirs the soul and strikes the mind."

Sister Mary Madiline speaks up softly. "Should we limit creators to one form, or should they be free to create as they wish? The same question should be asked of the Topic as well."

"Let the muses take you where they will, I'd say."

"I think this should be open to all forms, styles, and topics. Each will be judged on it's merit, and if you happen to choose one that appeals to the judges natures, then you may be an excellent judge of character."
